*The following message was posted to all families on HERO, however, we have placed it here as well, just in case the HERO message did not reach you.

Dear whānau,

As you will be aware as a nation we will be moving to Alert Level 4 at 11.59pm this evening.  The Prime Minister has announced that we will be going into Level 4 Lockdown which means all schools will be closed as of tomorrow.

Green School NZ will be closed for all learners from midnight Tuesday 17th August.  At this stage, we can not confirm when we will be reopening but we hope that as a community if we all get on board and follow the advice, we could be back to school by Monday.

Having been here before, we all know that we need to take some time to breathe through any anxieties we may have, be brave, be safe, and stay positive. This could be a time as whānau to play board games, create art, have meaningful conversations, make music and reconnect with each other. Whanaungatanga! What a blessing.

We encourage you to spend tomorrow as a wellness day. Discuss how you as a family will work through the next few days, navigate devices and time together, figure out grocery shopping and take time to be together. Your tamariki may need you to talk through this event.  We will support you all in navigating this with them.

We will also do this in the morning as staff with our own families and then spend the afternoon planning for the remote learning experience. Your teachers will email you and message you via HERO at 5pm with an outline of what to expect for your learning on Thursday and Friday.

We will send out daily emails at 5pm as well with a communication update.  There is online learning available already for our High School learners and we will have home learning options available for Primary from Thursday.

Let’s continue to model to our tamariki our Green School values.  Let’s use common sense, speak honestly, work together, be alert but not alarmed, be kind, and care for each other.  As we come together as a community and nation, we can get through this together.

Aroha nui,

Green School NZ Team
